Using Instagram Stories for Your Brand | LBN

Small business owners are known to struggle with Social Media. Is it worth the investment? How can you monetize it? It’s not as cut and dry as a simple ad where you just measure traffic and conversions. But regardless as to where you stand on social media, it’s clear that brands need to cultivate their social media profiles and funnel their brand stories through them.

Since the Beauty and Lifestyles industries are driven by aesthetics, having an IG account is an absolute must. This month Instagram released a new feature called Instagram Stories that for those of us familiar with Snapchat are seeing identical features between the two. In Instagram, Stories are picture or video slideshows that will vanish after 24 hours. You’ll find Stories from those you follow in the prime real estate at the top of your feed page.

But does that mean Snapchat and Instagram are now at a standoff over users? According to Fashionista, neither needs to go out with guns blazing:

Don’t panic, you don’t have to make a decision between one or the other, as there are valid reasons for your favorite brands to develop their Instagram Stories and maintain their Snapchat accounts, especially if there’s already an existing, growing audience. Despite being very similar, the biggest difference is the community and how they use it. While Snapchat has maintained more raw, fun, behind-the-scenes content, Instagram timelines are more thoughtful and curated. “Snapchat is a little more candid and can be a little more ugly,” says Zabarah. “It would be strange to use the Snapchat approach, which is a little less aesthetic-directed, on Instagram.”

But should you use Stories for your brand? Yes. Now is a good time to add them to your social media strategy and use Stories as a way to show people a more off-the-cuff view of your brand. Use them for product demo’s or as teasers for big announcements or releases. You can also use them at events to give followers a blow-by-blow of what’s going on.
